Ummmm, interesting… From the Dogfish Head Ancient Ale series… Brewed with Za’ater (seasoned oregano mixture), Doum fruit, Chamomile, Emmer Farro, and Free-range Egyptian yeast. Smells odd and tastes twangy (can’t think of a good comparison). Always fun to try their interesting creations! Nice label!

Serious Madness from Mad River

We stopped by Sublime Ale House to use one of the Groupons we purchased. I settled on the wee dainty glass of Serious Madness, an imperial stout, and the lady chose the Scotch Porter, served in the big boy glass. Both sodas were from Mad River Brewing…fancy that.

To help rack up the cost we also grabbed some grub. Though tasty, our sauteed brussel sprout and pork belly salad was missing a key ingredient…like the brussel sprouts. I think we found brussel sprout pieces equivalent to 1.75 sprouts. There must be a shortage a haven’t heard about.

San Marcos/Vista Beer Tasting

Enjoyed a couple tasters at several North County San Diego breweries in Vista & San Marcos including Aztec, Iron Fist, Mother Earth, and Lost Abbey. We missed several others in the area, and are excited about a couple new ones opening soon… Quite the Oasis!

Slater’s 50/50

Can’t go wrong with 50% bacon / 50% beef burgers and 112 craft beer taps! We enjoyed a Ballast Point Victory at Sea and an Ommegang Seduction, and split the burger, 50/50.

Mary Jane IPA at Rock Bottom La Jolla

A nice balance of malt and hops in this west-coast style IPA clocking in at 7.5% ABV. I thought I got the big boy beer due to happy hour, but was informed that it was due to me sitting next to a pretty girl that has exceeded all available “mug club” awards. Just sit in her presence and you get big beers a rock bottom….good to know.

Lost Abbey Track 1

Was there for the release of Lost Abbey’s first track, “Runnin’ With the Devil“, from their Box Set collection.

Thirty lbs of Cab Sauv. grapes, aged in wine barrels and spike with Brettanomyces. A lot of things going on in this beer. Was lucky to have it!
